Similitude of our Islamic Leadership
As we all know, the QurÂan is filled with similitudes. Comparing things we know very well with concepts that for some might be hard to understand. This past weekend I came across an example that was very sad, but at the same time rings true for the leadership we have within our masajid, for the most part.
I went to visit a brother who is a dear member of a very great community. Recently, he had a stroke while playing tennis with other prominent members of the Muslim community. He is now in a state where he can barely move and hardly talks. His wife says that he understands most everything, but does not have the ability to say things back. What happened to him is similar to our running of masajid in crisis situation, and rather than draw a direct analogy, I will let you come up with your own, after the story is told, so here goes.
The story is straight from the wife, but this brother plays tennis with other members of the community and he is a bit older. One day while playing and with about 5 people with him, he had a stroke and fell to the ground. All five gathered around him and began to talk about what to do. One suggested giving CPR, other suggested turning him on his side, others suggested other things, but no one did anything for 10 minutes. Throughout this time, his heart had stopped and he was not getting enough oxygen to his brain. No one thought of calling 911 until after 10 precious minutes. Once they called, theambulancee was there in less than one minute, why, because the hospital was literally across the street. The EMT people said that they could have just picked him up and taken him across the street and it would have made a huge difference. Instead, everyone argued about what to do and thus got nothing done. By the time someone took charge and did something, it was too late.
Faced with crisis situations in our Islamic organizations, does anyone see an analogy or is it just me   .
